VIVA Presents “This Place, These Faces” in the month of May
VIVA Gallery’s May show featuring portraits mostly completed during the winter of 2024 and 2025 by The Plein Air Painters of Vernon County. “In Plein Air” refers to painting “in open air” or from life.
“Each portrait in this show was done in a three hour session by 9 artists using oil, watercolor or charcoal.”
Who are the Vernon County Plein Air Painters?
Viroqua's Wednesday painters group is a loose group of artists who have been gathering together since the early 90's to draw and paint the figure and landscape directly from life. We have gone through many iterations, meeting at various studios and painting locations throughout the years. During the winter months we meet to study the figure, and in the warmer months we gather outdoors to paint the landscape of the beautiful driftless region we call home. Currently, our artists come together not only from Vernon County, but from Crawford, Richland, La Crosse and Monroe counties as well. We are forever thankful to the people of this town who are willing to sit so we can practice our craft. This show is a small sampling of the figurative work our group has completed over recent open studio sessions.
