Meet the Artist

Monica Jagel - Colored Pencil and Mixed Media

My art is driven by my love of nature. I draw what I enjoy - hiking, kayaking, gardening and cooking. I love to draw plants and vegetables and animals. My ingredients include good quality paper, lightfast colored pencils, a good pencil sharpener and watercolors. I like “noodling” the details and carefully layering colors. I blend these elements together with a message.

The past few years I have had a lot of fun creating what I like to call “functional art” in the form of re-usable flour sack towels. When completed my artwork is professionally scanned and digitally printed onto cotton towels. Many of my images are also offered as greeting cards.

I have a BFA and also a certification in Botanical Illustration. The majority of my artwork is created during the winter months seated at my mom’s old kitchen table.
