Artisan Market Opens November 5!
This year’s Artisan Market features the works of Naomi Hart, Ken Garden, Mariella Ter Beest Schladweiler, Liza Kuecker, Dianne Briggs, Elizabeth Cahill, Sally Turner, Toni Furlano & Susan Lind.
Naomi Hart - encaustic paintings
My studio practice involves an Encaustic Mixed Media process I have developed which layers my etchings and detailed drawings along with a huge array of materials all embedded within many layers of hot beeswax. I layer rice papers, powdered pigments, intentionally rusted fabrics and more to create a surrealist distortion of sharply rendered imagery. The wax's translucency adds an alluring history and depth to each piece, softening and creating warm approacha
Diane Briggs - fabric and embroidered accessories
I am a “sewist” who creates functional and practical items using fabric and thread. My most popular creations implementing fabric are reversible dog bandanas and table runners. Items embellished using thread through machine embroidery include towels and aprons.
Elizabeth Cahil - decorative ceramic tiles
I make art tile using a 14th century style of decorating which mimics mosaic work, called "cuerda seca." I use oxide tinted wax resist to lay lines on pieces and then painstakingly fill each area with colorful glazes. While this is probably one of the most time intensive ways to decorate ceramics, I love it because I can paint the same thing ten times and get ten different renditions. No two are ever the same and unloading the kiln is always an exciting venture.
Sally Turner - woven baskets, ornaments
My pine needle work is created using long leaf pine needles that come from the Carolinas, Georgia or Florida. The raw needles are placed in a water and glycerin bath and roasted slowly for several hours at a low temperature. The needles retain the glycerin, this strengthens them. If I choose to use color in the needles, dye is added to the glycerin bath.
Toni Furlano - tree branch sculptures
I enjoy hiking in the woods looking for fallen branches and bringing them back to life in another form. Depending on the shape and the twist of the branch, I envision what it will become. There is scraping of the bark, cutting and fitting, and then it is all put together; ready for painting and finishing.
John Karlstad - wooden cutting boards
I have many years of experience with many woodworking tasks–from building houses to creating walking sticks. Most of my cutting boards are created with left-over pieces from a variety of woodworking projects.
Susan Lind - gemstone jewelry
I am a metalsmith working with texture, design, and color to create unique wearable jewelry art.
Liza Kuecker - fine knitting
I select beautiful and high quality yarns to knit socks, hand warmers and sweaters.
Mariella TerBeest-Schadweiler - fabric purses
I design and construct upholstery fabric handbags. I start with a sketch and then draft a pattern. I work with color, pattern, and blend a combination of fabrics which develops into a unique look.Working with a forty – three year-old Viking sewing machine, I design and create upholstery fabric handbags.
Ken Garden - wooden bowls & rolling pins
